I think I was about 8 years old when I started playing ‘racket guitar’. After the then still mandatory general musical education at the local music school, I was allowed to take classical guitar lessons from the age of 11. About 2 years later, the classical guitar made way for an electric one. And after a few lessons here and there and the necessary years of experimenting, discovering, fiddling and a lot of noise, I studied ‘light music’ (jazz/pop) and minor classical music at the Maastricht Conservatory from 1981 to 1988.
During and after my time at the conservatory, I played as a freelancer in many occasional formations with musicians of various names and fame and my own jazz trio.
In addition, I worked as a guitar and theory teacher at various music schools. In 1994, I finally started my own music school for jazz, rock and fusion: ‘Tune Up’. The school gradually grew and expanded with practice rooms and a modest recording studio.
The emphasis of my lessons is on actually making music and the fun and relaxation of it. I try to tailor the lessons according to an ad hoc curriculum as much as possible to the individual student and his or her wishes and needs in terms of musical preference, lesson structure, techniques, didactics, learning capacity and pace, focus, etc.
Of the many musical sources of inspiration and influences, I would like to mention my greatest inspiration Wes Montgomery - When I first heard Wes, I was immediately sold and devoted. And through him, it all started for me.
